Trusts come in many different flavors: revocable or irrevocable, grantor or non-grantor, QTIP, life insurance, and charitable split-interest, just to name a few. Preparing income tax returns for these trusts often raises interesting questions. In this program, we will review the different types of trusts and go over the federal and state income tax forms they file each year. We will explain the law governing how each of the trusts work and what to do when these trusts accept property, own interests in entities, and eventually terminate. We will include sample language from our template trusts and show how the language translates into tax preparation. Heavy Q&A will be encouraged.
