Louis B. Schatz is a Partner at the Connecticut law firm of Shipman & Goodwin LLP. He currently serves on the Firm’s Management Committee and is the Co-Chair of the Firm’s Tax and Employee Benefits Practice Group. Mr. Schatz is a past Chair of the Tax Section of the Connecticut Bar Association. He currently sits as a Member of the House of Delegates of the Connecticut Bar Association. He is a past Chair of the Limited Liability Company Subcommittee of the Tax Section, the Subcommittee that was significantly involved in the drafting of Connecticut’s Limited Liability Company Act. Over the years Mr. Schatz has served on several Task Forces organized by the Department of Revenue Services that have dealt with various state tax issues. In September 2014 he was appointed by the Legislature to a 15-member Tax Panel that is charged with reviewing the overall structure of Connecticut’s tax laws.

Mr. Schatz has been counseling clients on Federal and State of Connecticut tax matters for over thirty years and is a frequent lecturer on these issues. His recent lectures include presentations to the Connecticut Bar Association, the Connecticut Society of CPAs, the Connecticut Business and Industry Association, the National Conference of CPA Practitioners (both the Nassau/Suffolk Chapter and the Westchester/Rockland Chapter), the National Business Institute, Lorman, the UCONN Income Tax School, the Long Island Tax Practitioners Symposium, the Tri-State Taxation Conference sponsored by the Foundation for Accounting Education (both the New York City and the Nassau Chapters), the New York State Society of CPAs (Westchester Chapter) and the Institute for Professionals in Taxation.

Mr. Schatz is the co-author of the leading treatise in Connecticut on limited liability companies: “Connecticut Limited Liability Company - Forms and Practice Manual” (Data Trace Legal Publishers). He has been designated as a “Best Lawyer” in the area of Taxation by Best Lawyers of America® and has been recognized by the Connecticut Law Tribune as both a Connecticut and New England “Super Lawyer” in the area of Taxation. He has been given the highest rating by Martindale Hubbell.

Mr. Schatz is a graduate of Cornell University, B.A., 1976, and the Cornell Law School, J.D., 1979, and received a Master's Degree in Taxation from the New York University School of Law (1980).
